Most research gives you a snapshot - what consumers think right now. Brand Tracking gives you a trend line - what's changing over time and why.
The module runs the same survey against the same audience profile on a repeating schedule. Each run is called a wave. Every wave produces a standalone report. From the second wave onwards, the report also shows what changed since the last wave.
Brand health doesn't move in straight lines. Campaigns, competitive activity, product launches, and cultural moments all push metrics around. Brand Tracking gives you the data to see those movements as they happen - and to distinguish a real shift from noise.
Brand Tracking is the only module on the Standard Insights platform that runs on a repeating schedule. The other modules - Concept Testing, Brand Lift, Campaign Recall, Profile Your Audience, and Usage & Attitude - are one-time studies. If the brief is to monitor brand health over time rather than answer a single question, Brand Tracking is the right choice.
What gets measured - the five survey parts
Part 1 - Profiling and qualification (all respondents)
Every wave opens by confirming respondents match your target profile - demographics and a category consumption qualifier. Respondents who don't consume the category are either screened out or, if the Prospective Consumers top-up is active, routed into Part 5 instead.
Part 2 - Brand funnel (qualified respondents)
The core of every wave. Tracks six stages of the consumer-brand relationship across all brands in the category:
- Unaided awareness - which brands come to mind without prompting
- Aided awareness - which brands from a list they've heard of
- Ad recall - which brands they've seen advertised recently, and on which channels
- Purchase - which brands they've ever bought from
- Most often purchased - which brand they buy from most
- Future consideration - which brands they would consider buying from
For brands the respondent has purchased from, the survey also collects: satisfaction score, differentiation score, NPS (Net Promoter Score - how likely they are to recommend the brand), reasons for considering the brand, and reasons for not considering it.
Note: the unaided awareness question - an open-text "which brand first comes to mind?" question - is an optional top-up. It is not included in the base price. See the Pricing section.
Part 3 - Brand attributes and perception (qualified respondents)
- Word associations - what words come to mind for the brand?
- Attribute associations - which brands are seen as most Innovative, Trustworthy, Premium, and so on, across up to 5 client-defined attributes
- Perception positioning on two axes: Affordable <-> Expensive and Low Quality <-> High Quality
Part 4 - Category habits and decision factors (qualified respondents)
- When they typically consume the product
- Most important reasons they choose products in this category
- Where they usually buy
- How many brands they rotate between
- Whether they've recommended a brand recently
Part 5 - Prospective Consumers (top-up only - non-category users only)
Only included if the Prospective Consumers top-up is purchased. Respondents who said they never consume the category are routed here instead of being screened out. Covers: familiarity with the category, barriers to trial, what might convince them to try, and where they discover new products. Useful for brands focused on growing total category penetration rather than taking share from existing users.
The four cadence options
Monthly
12 waves per year. The highest resolution trend line available. Best for fast-moving categories, active campaigns, or competitive markets where things shift quickly. Available on request - get in touch for pricing.
Quarterly
4 waves per year. The most common choice. Enough resolution to track meaningful change without the cost of monthly tracking. Available on request - get in touch for pricing.
Bi-yearly
2 waves per year. Best for stable categories or brands with limited budgets. Gives a directional read on annual shifts. Available on request - get in touch for pricing.
Snapshot
A single one-time wave. No trend data - just a point-in-time read on brand health. Useful as a baseline before starting a tracking programme, or as a standalone strategic input. Many clients start with a Snapshot to establish a baseline, then move to quarterly tracking once they know what to watch. Available to order directly online - see pricing below.
What to provide
The order form asks for the following:
- Product category or industry
- Optional context note
- Your brand name
- Up to 4 competitor brands to track - your brand plus up to 4 competitors gives a total of 5 tracked brands in the base price. If left blank, the platform generates a relevant competitor list automatically
- Up to 5 brand attributes to track (for example: Tasty, Convenient, Good Quality, Good Value, Innovative) - if left blank, the platform generates relevant attributes based on your category. Attributes stay consistent across every wave to ensure a comparable trend line. Changing them mid-programme breaks the trend, so it's worth choosing carefully at the start
- Study cadence - Monthly / Quarterly / Bi-yearly / Snapshot
- Audience size - default and minimum is 300 respondents per wave. Reducing below 300 does not reduce the price
-
Top-ups (optional):
- Unaided Awareness question - adds the open-text brand recall question; the most sensitive early indicator of brand health change
- Additional competitors above 5 total - per-wave cost per extra competitor beyond the 5 included in the base
- Additional statements above 5 - per-wave cost per extra attribute beyond the 5 included in the base
- Additional respondents above 300 - billed at cost per respondent per wave
- Prospective Consumers module - priced per non-user respondent routed into Part 5 per wave; cost per respondent varies by IR. Not available for National Representative samples
- Custom questions - up to 2 included free per wave; additional questions billed per question per wave

Pricing
The Snapshot is available to order directly online. Longitudinal tracking programmes - Monthly, Quarterly, and Bi-yearly - are available on request. Pricing for those varies depending on cadence, audience, and market. Get in touch and the Standard Insights team will put together a configuration that fits your brief.

A note on incidence rate (IR)
IR - incidence rate - is the proportion of the general population who qualify for your target audience. The narrower your audience criteria, the lower the IR, and the more each qualifying respondent costs to reach. This affects both price and lead time.
Constraints
- Minimum 300 respondents per wave - reducing below 300 does not reduce the price
- IR below 30% is not supported via standard order - contact Standard Insights for a custom quote
Lead times
| IR band | Lead time |

FAQ
What's the difference between a Snapshot and a tracking programme?
A Snapshot is a single wave - it gives you a point-in-time read on brand health but produces no trend data. A tracking programme (Monthly, Quarterly, or Bi-yearly) runs the same survey repeatedly, so from the second wave onwards you can see what's changing and in which direction. The Snapshot is available to order directly online. Tracking programmes are available on request - get in touch and the team will recommend the right cadence and configuration for your brief. Many clients start with a Snapshot to establish a baseline, then move into a programme once they know which metrics they want to watch.
How many competitors can I track?
The base price covers your brand plus up to 4 competitors - 5 brands in total. If you need to track more, additional competitors beyond that are available as a top-up. The platform will generate a relevant competitor list automatically if you leave the field blank on the order form.
What's the Unaided Awareness top-up and why would I want it?
Unaided awareness is the open-text question that asks respondents which brand first comes to mind in the category - without showing them a list. It's the most sensitive early indicator of brand health change, because it captures the brands that have genuine mental availability rather than just recognition when prompted. It's not included in the base price because it adds to survey length and processing time, but for most tracking programmes it's worth considering - particularly if share of mind is a strategic priority.
What are the brand attributes and do I have to define them?
Brand attributes are the specific qualities you want to track - for example, Tasty, Convenient, Good Value, Innovative, or Trustworthy. You can define up to 5. If you leave the field blank, the platform generates a relevant set based on your category. The key thing to know is that attributes must stay consistent across every wave - they form the basis of your trend line. Changing them mid-programme means you lose comparability with earlier waves, so it's worth spending time on them before your first wave launches.
What is the Prospective Consumers top-up?
The Prospective Consumers top-up routes non-category-users into a separate survey path instead of screening them out. Rather than simply being excluded, they answer questions about their familiarity with the category, barriers to trial, what might convince them to try, and where they discover new products. This is useful if your brief includes growing the total category - understanding why people who don't currently consume it are staying away, and what might change that. Note that this top-up is not available for National Representative samples.
Can I change the survey questions between waves?
The core survey template stays consistent across all waves - that's what makes the trend data comparable. Custom questions (up to 2 free per wave) can be changed between waves if needed, since they sit outside the core trend structure. Brand attributes, competitor list, and core survey questions should not be changed once the programme is underway. If a change is genuinely necessary, contact Standard Insights before making it - changes to tracked variables need to be handled carefully to preserve as much data continuity as possible.
From which wave do I start seeing trends?
Trend data appears from Wave 2 onwards. The first wave establishes your baseline - it produces a full standalone report, but with no prior wave to compare against, the wave-over-wave trend sections of the Analysis tab are not yet active. From Wave 2, the report shows what has changed since the previous wave, and trend lines begin to build with each subsequent wave.
Is National Representative available in all markets?
Yes. National Representative sampling is available in all markets supported by the platform.
How does Brand Tracking relate to the other modules?
Brand Tracking is for ongoing monitoring. The other modules answer specific one-time questions: Concept Testing evaluates an idea before it's produced; Brand Lift tests whether a campaign creative will shift brand metrics before it runs; Campaign Recall measures the impact of a campaign that has already aired. A common pattern is to use Brand Lift or Concept Testing before a campaign launches, run the campaign, measure impact with Campaign Recall, and then use Brand Tracking to monitor the longer-term effect on brand health over time.
Can I run Brand Tracking in multiple markets?
Yes. Each market is configured as a separate study. For Snapshot orders, pricing applies per study - use the table above to calculate the cost for each market. For longitudinal tracking programmes across multiple markets, get in touch and the team will build a configuration for your full scope.
